Overview
Fox Creek Bike Park is South Australia's premier mountain-bike destination, set inside the Cudlee Creek Forest Reserve within the larger Mount Crawford Forest, about 40 minutes from Adelaide CBD on Kaurna and Peramangk Country. The park sprawls over roughly 814 hectares of working pine forest with more than 50 km of singletrack and 560 m of vertical, catering to everything from beginner green pump-laps to black-grade gravity and downhill.
The site was completely overrun by the December 2019 Cudlee Creek bushfire (part of the Black Summer fires) and reopened in April 2021 after a major rebuild led by Rocky Trail Destination in partnership with ForestrySA. The relaunch added a jumps park, a progression-focused skills area, a facilities hub (kiosk, toilets, showers, shelter), and refreshed cross-country, all-mountain, downhill, enduro and gravel zones. Adelaide-based mountain-bike clubs originally cut the trails and continue stewardship via Fox Care volunteer days.
Day-use entry is free. Vehicle shuttling to the upper carpark is supported by The Fox Run (chairlift sessions on a published roster) and EscapeGoat Adventures (vehicle shuttles); independent shuttling via private vehicle is also common between the lower and upper car parks. The park welcomed more than 120,000 visits in FY 2023-24.

Best Season & Conditions
- Peak riding season: Autumn (Mar–May) and spring (Sep–Nov). Winter rides well between fronts; summer is hot/dusty but rideable early or late.
- Wet-weather impact: Largely sand-and-gravel base on the new build holds up well; some hand-cut lower-bench trails (Spaghetti Western etc.) shed water more slowly — check live trail status before riding after sustained rain.
- Fire-danger / total-fire-ban impact: Forest closed to the public on declared Total Fire Ban days (CFS Mt Lofty Ranges district). Open fires prohibited on all ForestrySA land 1 Nov – 30 Apr.
- Snow / alpine season: N/A — Adelaide Hills, no snow closures.
- School-holiday surge: Weekends and SA school holidays are the busiest; shuttle bookings recommended on those days. Major events (Dirty Weekend etc.) book out the park entirely.
Managing Body & Trail Builders
- Land manager: ForestrySA (within Cudlee Creek Forest Reserve, Mount Crawford Forest). A public Request for Proposal process is underway (as of 2024–2026) to identify a longer-term operating model and external partners; structure may evolve.
- Trail builder / maintainer: Original network hand-cut by Adelaide MTB clubs. Post-fire rebuild delivered by Rocky Trail Destination; ongoing maintenance shared between ForestrySA, Rocky Trail, and community volunteers via Fox Care days.
- Volunteer / dig days: Fox Care volunteer days scheduled through the year (see events page / Facebook).
- Donations / membership: No formal membership scheme; donation/volunteer hooks via Fox Care.
- Operator email: foxcreekbp@forestrysa.com.au (general); recreation@forestrysa.com.au (ForestrySA recreation team)
- Phone: 08 8391 8800 (ForestrySA duty ranger — also published as park contact on tourism listings)
History & Background
- 1990s onward: Adelaide MTB clubs cut the original Fox Creek trail network within the working pine forest at Cudlee Creek. Park described by Visit Adelaide Hills as "South Australia's premier riding destination for close to three decades".
- 20 Dec 2019: Cudlee Creek bushfire (Black Summer) destroyed essentially the entire trail network, signage, and infrastructure.
- 2020–2021: Rebuild funded and delivered by Rocky Trail Destination with ForestrySA; community input shaped the new layout (gravity zone with shuttle access, progression skills area, jumps park, gravel loops).
- April 2021: Park officially reopens with new trail network and a facilities hub.
- 2023–24: 120,000+ recorded visits — confirms it as SA's busiest dedicated MTB venue.
- 2025–2026: ForestrySA running a public consultation / Request for Proposal on a sustainable long-term management model.
