How we use affiliate links, what they cost you, and our commitment to editorial independence.
MTB Trails Australia ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at mtbtrailsaustralia.com.au (the "Site"). To help keep the directory free to use, some links on the Site are affiliate links. This page explains what that means, how it affects you (in short: it costs you nothing extra), and how we keep our recommendations honest. We publish this disclosure so you can make an informed choice, consistent with Australian Consumer Law guidance from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
An affiliate link is an outbound link to a third-party business that lets that business recognise you were referred by us. If you click one and then make a booking or purchase, we participate in, or may earn commissions from, affiliate programs that pay us a small percentage of the sale. We may add or remove programs over time.
We participate in, or may earn commissions from, affiliate programs including, but not limited to:
We do not claim that any particular program is live at any given moment — the programs we take part in change as the Site grows.
Using an affiliate link never increases the price you pay. You are charged the same amount you would pay by going to the business directly; any commission comes out of the business's margin, not your pocket. You are always free to navigate to a business directly instead of using our link.
Our recommendations, rankings, ratings, and trail and park descriptions are not influenced by commissions. We list and rank parks, trails, and facilities on their merits — the quality of the riding, the accuracy of the data, and what we think will genuinely help riders plan a ride. A business does not get better placement, a higher rating, or a mention because it has an affiliate program, and we do not accept payment to alter editorial content. If a commercial relationship ever conflicts with giving you honest information, honest information wins.
Affiliate and outbound links may carry tracking tags (for example, tags appended to the URL) and may set cookies so the third party can attribute a referral to us. This tracking is operated by the third-party business, not by us, and is subject to that business's own privacy policy. For more on cookies and how we handle data, see our Privacy Policy. For the rules that apply to outbound links, see our Terms of Use.
If you have any questions about how we use affiliate links or about a specific recommendation, email us at hello@mtbtrailsaustralia.com.au and we'll be happy to explain.
